Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who have died in service to our country. It is also a time to celebrate our freedom. The best way to celebrate Memorial Day is to decorate your home with patriotic decor.
Y’all, the thing I love about planning & making fun Memorial Day decor is you can use it all again for July 4th.
You can begin adding these Patriotic Decorating Ideas to your home now and leave them out through the 4th of July. Many of these decor ideas are inexpensive DIY Projects, and thrift store finds.

Lighting Ideas
One of my favorite lights to decorate is located on my screened porch. The DIY light fixture has 8 mini vases that I found at a thrift store, and they are hanging from galvanized wire.
I love filling these glass vases with seasonal decor, and filling them with flowers adds so much charm to all the table settings.
DIY Mini Flags
However, for Memorial Day, I wanted something unique, and the mini flags were a very inexpensive patriotic DIY project.
I downloaded a free printable of the flags from Delia Creates and attached them to a toothpick to hold them in the vases.
In addition, you can age the flags by spotting them with a little leftover coffee. Just add a little to a paper towel and dab the flags.
Finally, add a few sprigs of faux greenery or clip some from your landscape to a touch of patriotic charm.
Scrap Fabric Streamers
Another fun area to add Patriotic decor is the greenhouse/she shed.
The greenhouse chandelier has a festive feel, with red and blue scrap ticking fabric and stars made from drop cloth fabric.
This is a budget-minded craft that creates whimsical patriotic decor. It’s a simple process that you can see here more on the Made Easy Patriotic Tablescape!
The chandelier is a repurposed thrift store find, and you can see the tutorial here.

Patriotic Decorating Centerpiece Ideas
To create a fun centerpiece for Memorial Day, just fill a basket full of green plants and add a few flags. So easy and inexpensive. You can transfer the plants to larger containers after your dinner to enjoy all summer or reuse them for the 4th of July festivities.
The vintage ironstone pitcher shines with a few geraniums stems and some more inexpensive flags. The pitcher is heavy enough to withstand the wind on the pier and keep the tablecloth from blowing away as well.
What’s more patriotic than a picnic by the water? Here Kristin at White Arrows Home uses vintage picnic supplies for a festive picnic by the lake.
Patriotic DIY Napkins
One of my favorite projects when we first built the greenhouse was these DIY Patriotic Napkins that I made for my 4th of July tablescape.
I decorated the Greenhouse table for a fun, casual dinner. These will be perfect for Memorial Day picnics or barbecues. You can see the napkin tutorial using inexpensive ticking and drop cloth fabric.
I used the napkins again for an Easy Fourth of July Supper Club Dinner.
Don’t you love the thrifted watermelon dishes mixed with Bico Ceramics Watercolored Blue & White Dishes.
Patriotic Memorial Day Porch Ideas
It’s so easy to decorate a porch with a Patriotic Memorial Day Theme. Just add some red or white geraniums to your porch containers.
The best part of this idea is you can keep these beauties blooming all Summer long with these tips.
Flowers
Here I’ve used a combination of real and faux geraniums to fill the porch with a burst of patriotic color. Just a couple of inexpensive flags, a blue and white rug, and ta-da!
I love the flag on the pitchfork and her ticking stripe pillow on the vintage rocker. Pure country chic perfection. If you want to keep your porch looking fresh all summer, check Summertime Porch Tips.
Vintage Flags
My friend, Kim at Shiplap and Shells, added a patriotic stars and stripes quilt and flag to enhance this gorgeous view from her deck. Her sweet pups look cozy and snuggled up on the quilt.
This simple patriotic porch view is from Chrissy at Sawdust n Daisies. I love the flag on the pitchfork and her ticking stripe pillow on the vintage rocker. Pure country chic perfection.
Another way to add vintage patriotic charm to your porch is to add an old flag.
Look at thrift and consignment stores for the best deals. Mixed with plaid red, white and blue pillow covers, it’s all you need for patriotic decorating.
You can see more details from this Patriotic Porch Tour.
Patriotic Decor
Another way to add a patriotic feel is to pull out any red, white, and blue decor and spread it around the house.
Thrifted Red, White, and Blue
The thrifted red metal H and the vintage thermos help to create a fun vignette with patriotic baskets and flags.
The baskets are handmade and a treasured find while out thrifting with the gals.
The Coke-Cola sign also has touches of red to complete the festive feel.
When we entertain on the porch, the baskets are easy to move and dress up with some additional flags.
Christy at Stone Gate Cottage shares a simple vignette that feels patriotic without a flag in sight. Her color combinations are just vintage-perfect.
The greenhouse / she shed is filled with thrifted decor that reflects a patriotic theme.
You can see all the Patriotic Ideas for the She Shed / Greenhouse.
I love how Stacy at Bricks N Blooms is keeping it neutral but still patriotic with her rustic stars mixed with white blooms.
Patriotic DIY Pillow
How about a Patriotic DIY Scrap Fabric Pillow Cover? This project is easy to make and is a great recycling project.
DIY Wreaths
Adding a patriotic wreath to your porch or front door is an excellent way to celebrate Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.

Patriotic Decor Tablescape Inspiration
Here are some examples of creating a festive tablescape that is perfect for Memorial Day without the typical stars and stripes.
Donna, at Haverstraw Hill, adds a fun, festive feel with cherries and other red berries. Don’t you feel like celebrating with just a glance at this fun table?
There’s just something patriotic about watermelons and Becky at Southern Spangled creates the cutest display with her handmade watermelons piled in this cute red wagon.
My friend, Ann at Dabbling & Decorating, has the most beautiful vintage dishes, and she uses them to create a dreamy, patriotic tablescape. She adds fruits and red vintage accessories to complete the patriotic feel.
There are so many creative ideas for a Patriotic theme. I hope you enjoyed these fun Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas.
