Patriotic Ideas For She Shed – Greenhouse: Red, White & Blue Garden Oasis
With the 4th of July fast approaching, I wanted to share how I’ve turned the She-Shed / Greenhouse into a red, white, and blue garden oasis. These simple patriotic touches are easy to duplicate in your home or she shed. We built the DIY Greenhouse, with plants in mind, but it has evolved into more of a she-shed over time. Each season, the decor includes garden and potting implements as well as plants and florals. Let me show you how easy it is to create a patriotic feel to any space.

What Is A She Shed vs. Greenhouse?
Although the greenhouse has the structural elements of a “greenhouse”, it also qualifies as a she shed because it’s a place to escape to. She Sheds are typically any structure that women can spend time away from the rest of the family and is compared to a Man Cave for men.

Patriotic Ideas for She Shed
These Patriotic Ideas for She Shed were inspired by this great vintage flag I found in a consignment store last year. To compliment the flag, fill the copper boiler pot with red geraniums.
I have an abundance of geraniums because I used these overwinter tips to save and multiply the plants. In addition, the cute patriot hearts are made from vintage quilts and are from The Halsey Homestead.

One of the first DIY projects was the Apothecary Cabinet that was originally an IKEA storage cube.

Patriotic Ideas
You can add patriotic touches to any space with a few flags and red, white or blue accessories.

She Shed Greenhouse
The she shed greenhouse is filled with vintage gardening tools, thrifted baskets and diy projects. The center table was rescued from my dad’s old shop and the repurposed chandelier was a $10 thrift store find.

Although there is no electricity, that didn’t stop me from adding this FREE chandelier that I found at Habitat ReStore which I discussed on the Thrifting with the Gals post.

Planter’s and Containers for She Shed Greenhouse
It is easy to add more patriotic touches just by filling the ironstone planter with red geraniums and flags. These geraniums are blooms removed from the larger plants in my yard. Here is how to keep geraniums blooming all summer long. In addition, the patriotic handmade basket is filled with vintage garden tools.

Here’s another great way to make any plant patriotic, just add a few flags and ta da!

Because I can’t leave a spot unadorned, more geraniums and flags are added to the DIY potting table. We built the potting table from old windows and porch posts that were left over from the greenhouse construction. I perfect for keeping the space open and airy while holding potting tools.

Your greenhouse and patriotic decor are enchanting! I super enjoy when you share posts involving your greenhouse – inspiring!
Angie,
Thank you! I love the greenhouse and spent some time in there this weekend while I felt good. I feel that this summer is passing me by and I’ve not planted any flowers but I’ve been amazed at how many flowers are coming up volunteer. I guess mother nature knew I’d want flowers even if I’m not able to plant any this year. I hope you have an amazing week and god bless.
Rachel, your post and beautiful pictures of your She-Shed/Greenhouse are so cheery! You did a fabulous job with your red, white and blue! I just love seeing how you place all your lovely antique items in it. Your potting table you made with the old windows is so unique. You have created such a lovely place to come and putter — and just get away for a bit. I had a tiny greenhouse at our home at the lake and I loved it. When we sold our home, the gal just loved it and asked if I would leave everything for her. I was happy to do this for her.
How are you doing today, Rachel? So glad that your second chemo treatment is behind you. Hope you are getting lots of rest this weekend. I always enjoy reading your journal and taking note of things I can pray for. Rachel, I know that losing your hair is really tough to go through. You were braver than me because I just could not bring myself to have my hair shaved off. So, I really admire you for doing this. I know it makes it much easier rather than have the hair come out on its own. It is wonderful to hear that so many people are praying for you. This means so much and how wonderful to feel the power of prayer. So nice that the church gave you a “prayer quilt”. Just wrap this around you whenever you sit and know that many prayers are being sent to God for you! A dear older friend of ours knit me a prayer shawl with the arms knit in it and it was so cozy — and a beautiful pink! I passed that on and it continues to be passed on along with the “original” note I wrote. So, my prayer shawl is making the rounds and I am so happy for that! Rachel, I was also going to mention to you that I had a metallic taste in my mouth when I used my regular fork to eat. So, my dear hubby went and got me a good set of plastic to use and that helped. Seems like there are so many little things you experiment with. The one thing that was the hardest to cut out was my “black” coffee! Oh how I missed my coffee. Then, I had to cut out all dairy products and beef. I just had to keep reminding myself that this was only temporary. At times, I would just stand by the coffee maker and smell the coffee. I sure appreciated having these items return to my menu. I remember stopping on our way home — after my doctor visit where he told me that I could have coffee — at the Tim Horton’s and having a large cup of black coffee! That was wonderful! I’m sure a lot of things have changed since I went through my chemo in 1995. Also, dear Rachel, tears do happen. There are so many thoughts you have and, at times, it is so hard. I shed lots of tears and, like you, my dear hubby was always there with arms around me and words that just picked me up. How I thank God for my dear hubby. Rachel, we pray for you and Brad as you go through this journey together. It is so hard for you but it is just as hard for the husband who is going through his own tough times. I can remember seeing my hubby sitting in his chair and wiping his eyes. It was really hard to see this because I just knew how much he was hurting too. It’s the tough times when you know that God hears every prayer and knows all about what a difficult time you are going through. Also, Rachel, we shared you and your dear Brad with a lot of our family, Church family and friends and they are all praying for you both as you go through this journey. You know, it just brings happy tears to my eyes to know that so many are keeping you in their prayers. This is wonderful to know and how I continue to thank God for all the many prayers that we felt when I was on my journey — and thank Him for all the many prayers for you and your dear Brad. Rachel, would you be able to give me your mailing address? Thanks, Rachel. Our post office is working to rule right at the moment and it looks like there is going to be a total shutdown as they go on strike if they don’t get the pay raise they are looking for. Plus, they are going to discontinue door-to-door mail delivery and go to boxes at the end of streets. We don’t have to worry as our mail gets delivered to our individual mailboxes in our lobby. Plus, the forest fires here in Manitoba are so bad. So many homes, etc. have been lost. It’s just so sad. We are getting rain tonight and tomorrow so this will sure help. One of the fires in our eastern cottage area was purposely set and the RCMP have found the people who did this. Rachel, you live in such a beautiful part of the country. I just love looking at the pictures you show of your ponds and your gorgeous yard. You can just see how much love and hard work t you put into this. It has truly been a “labor of love”! Well, my dear friend, I’ll get this off for you. Take good care and rest whenever you can! You are loved and we keep you — and your dear Brad, too — in our thoughts and prayers.
Mary-Ann
Thank you for your encouragement and prayers. They mentioned that I might have a metallic taste and I ate with plastic forks for a few days the last go round as a precaution. I’ve not been told not to drink coffee so I still have one cup each morning. It’s so wonderful to hear from a cancer survivor like yourself and to share experiences. I appreciate all that you share with me and one day at a time I’ll get through this bump in the road. I hope you have a blessed week and that the rain will stop the fires in your area. Please take care.
