Patriotic Porch Decorations For 4th of July
Are you looking for some patriotic porch decoration ideas? Here are some creative ideas for 4th of July porch decorations that you are going to love.
This was a fun challenge, and I had a couple of interruptions during the photo shoot.
You may notice a few differences as you scroll along. See if you can spot the differences.
I hope you’ll point them out to me in the comments.
I’m joining Cindy at County Road 407 for her monthly Pinterest Challenge, and this month’s inspiration is a Patriotic Porch from Better Homes and Gardens.
In addition to my porch ideas, you can link to all the other blogger’s inspiration. If you are joining me from Kristin at White Arrows Home, welcome. Her lakeside porch is decorated perfectly for the 4th of July.

Patriotic Porch Decoration Challenge
First, I like to use as many elements in the inspiration photo as possible without spending any money.
Here are the key elements that I was able to find in my patriotic stash.
- Vintage American Flag (since I don’t have bunting flags)
- Small Flags
- White ironstone pitcher
- Red and White check fabric
- Red, White, and Blue plaid pillows
- Watermelon plates
- Red geraniums
- Porch Swing
- Wicker Porch Furniture
- Oh, and don’t forget the cute pup – be sure to see Rudy at the end.
I hope you like my interpretation of the patriotic porch.
4th of July Porch Decorations
For this challenge, I decided to decorate the seating area on our master bedroom front porch.
First, the vintage American flag was moved from the she shed greenhouse and added above the swing.
A strand of string white lights was draped across the flag to highlight the area in the evening.
What better way to add patriotic touches than adding lots of flags to the plants and floral arrangements.
Patriotic Coffee Table
With an abundance of red geraniums in the garden, it was easy to make an arrangement with small flags in the white ironstone pitcher.
In order to add texture, the pitcher is place inside a round basket tray and surrounded by a small eucalyptus wreath.
Because I didn’t have any fresh watermelon on hand, these cute watermelon plates were added to the coffee table vignette.
To complete the coffee table, I add one of my favorite summer candles and surrounded it with a floral candle ring.
Patriotic Decor
Additional patriotic decor such as this flag pillow, helps to make the porch feel festive for the upcoming 4th of July weekend.
I’m always picking up red decor to use seasonally on the porch and this thrifted red lantern is a favorite because it works for the 4th of July as well as Christmas.
Finally, the inspiration photo showed a plaid seat cushion on the porch swing. However instead of buying new seat cushions, I covered the existing ones with a red and white check fabric.
The front porch seating area is a favorite spot to relax and enjoy the view of all three ponds.
In addition to the swing, there are two antique wicker chairs for comfortable seating.
Awww, I bet you thought I forgot to add the cute pup! Well, to be honest, I almost did!!!
However, I pulled Rudy in at the last minute for this cute photo opt.
Do you notice anything else that’s different? Please comment if you do.
I hope you enjoyed these patriotic touches added to our farmhouse front porch.

Hi
Your porch looks beautiful for the 4th. I think you added a red watering can in the last picture.
Have a wonderful 4th of July on your Patriotic Porch.
Hey Mary,
Thanks so much for playing along. There may be a few more changes.
Hi Rachel = You have inspired me. I don’t have a front porch but a side main door is the entry. I’m going to “Rachel” it up.
Diana,
You are so kind. Thanks for your sweet comments.
You added a red watering can on the side table; changed out the rug; and removed or moved the red lantern.
Lady Di,
Hey you are correct on all account. Thanks so much for playing along..
HI Rachel,
Love this setting you created! And those watermelon plates.
The ads keep getting in the way of your photos. I had to adjust my ads for the same reason! I love your cozy setting!
Laura,
I really appreciate your input.
Oh Rachel like always it’s wonderful. I will play, different rug both are great and you hadn’t placed the check fabric over the cushion yet. I’ve never commented but so enjoy your blog and your shenanigans. I’m a shenanigans girl myself. Come visit me please https.//fortheloveofold.net
Shelley,
I’m so glad you commented. I can wait to check out your blog.

Laura,
I really appreciate your for stopping by.
I love your porch and all of your decor. I think I would live out there. Hanging the flag above the swing is such a great idea. I need to remember that for next year. Such a pretty spot to sit and relas. Happy 4th

Kirstin,
I”m so glad you like this.
I love your decorating touches which are very similar to mine in our 1887 farmhouse in Oregon. Your porch looks just perfect, with either rug ha ha, but I prefer the first one (itโs similar to mine).
Sally,
Thank you so much for stopping by today. oh and to have an 1887 farmhouse. I’m so jealous. I’ve always wanted an old farmhouse.
Oh my goodness! Your porch is gorgeous. Happy Fourth of July, my friend.
Rachel your porchlooks so pretty!
I just can’t take how cute those watermelon plates are!! Have a great holiday weekend!
I believe you have a new, different rug in the picture with Rudy. Charming patriotic porch!
I just love this patriotic porch Rachel! The thrifted red lantern is perfect and watermelon dishes are adorable!! Beautiful as always!!
Let’s see, I spotted Rudy, the watermelon plates, and the rug, but I’m probably missing something else. Love your spin on the challenge and I’m just blown away with your gorgeous porch and your surround setting. Awesome post Rachel!
Michelle,
Thanks so much for playing along.
Your porch is beautiful Rachel, I can just imagine sitting out there in the evenings!
Cindy,
I appreciate this.
Your porch looks amazing Rachel, I love the red geraniums, all of your flag decor and the cute watermelon plates.
Wendy,
I’m so glad you stopped by.
I love everything you did to create your patriotic pinterest challenge porch. You know I love little Rudy. And what a great idea to just cover the cushion with fabric. I usually throw a quilt over our rocker but totally forgot. The watermelon slice plates are fantastic! But my fave is that you did all of this by shopping your house. Thanks for joining in! pinned
Cindy,
I’m so glad you liked my post. It was fun to do.
I love your porch, Rachel!!! I wish we had more of a view here at our Texas home, but I’m trying as hard as I can to create one (from a zillion plants, lol!). I bet the ponds are wonderful to watch with local ducks and other wildlife visiting them!! Well, yes, eventually I did spot the change you made. It’s right under your feet. ;)’ Or your sweet pups feet! Both are nice with your antique wicker and all the fun pillows. Your porch looks totally comfortable; it’d be easy to just watch what’s going on at the pond then happily drowse off for a nap…
Enjoy your 4th,
Hugs,

Molly, Thanks so much. You are so observant.
This series is so much fun, Rachel! Your porch is perfection and the pops of red are all so cheery. I definitely want to pick up some watermelon this weekend. It’s such a great way to celebrate summer. Hope you guys have tons of fun celebrating, CoCo
