17 Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas

Y’all the thing I love about planning & making fun Memorial Day decor is you can use it all again for July 4th.

Here are 17 Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas that you can start making now and use for Memorial Day, as well as the 4th of July. I’m sharing some DIY, tablescapes and decor ideas that I’m saving for both occasions.

Lighting Ideas

Y’all know by now that I love filling these glass vases with seasonal decor. The DIY light fixture has 8 mini vases, that I found at a thrift store, and they are hanging from galvanized wire.

Adding the mini flags was a very inexpensive project. I downloaded a free printable of the flags from Delia Creates and attached them to a toothpick to hold them in the vases.

In addition, I aged the flags and added some sprigs of faux greenery. This added just a touch of patriotic charm to the porch table. See the original tutorial here, which includes a swipe up to the printable.

In addition, to give the greenhouse chandelier a festive feel, I used ticking fabric to create the whimsical patriotic decor. It’s a simple process that you can see here on the Made Easy Patriotic Tablescape!

Centerpiece ideas

To create a fun centerpiece for Memorial Day, just fill a basket full of green plants and add a few flags. So easy and inexpensive. You can transfer the plants to larger containers after your dinner to enjoy all summer or to reuse for the 4th of July festivities.

The vintage ironstone pitcher shines with a few geranium stems and some more inexpensive flags. The pitcher is heavy enough to withstand the wind on the pier and keep the tablecloth from blowing away as well.

What’s more patriotic than a picnic by the water. Here Kristin at White Arrows Home uses vintage picnic supplies for a fun festive picnic by the lake.

Kim at Shiplap and Shells added patriotic stars and stripes quilt and flag to enhance this gorgeous view. Her sweet pups look cozy snuggled up on the quilt.

Patriotic DIY Napkins

One of my favorite projects when we first built the greenhouse was these DIY Patriotic Napkins that I made for my 4th of July tablescape.

I decorated the Greenhouse table for a fun, casual dinner. These will be perfect for Memorial Day picnics or barbecues. They are easy to make using ticking and drop cloth fabric. Here are all the details.

Patriotic Memorial Day Porch Ideas

It’s so easy to decorate a porch with a Patriotic Memorial Day Theme. Just add some red or white geraniums to your porch containers. The best part of this idea is you can keep these beauties blooming all Summer long with these tips.

Here I’ve used a combination of real and faux geraniums to fill the porch with a burst of patriotic color. Just a couple of inexpensive flags, a blue and white rug and ta da!

The rug from Boutique Rugs is available in two colors and you can get a 60% discount with code: PONDS60

Adding a few other accessories like the flag pillow and wooden flag ornament completes the look. See more Summertime Porch Tips Here.

This simple patriotic porch view is from Chrissy at Sawdust n Daisies. I love the flag on the pitch fork and her ticking stripe pillow on the vintage rocker. Pure country chic perfection.

Patriotic Decor

Another way to add a patriotic feel is to pull out any red, white or blue decor and spread it around the house. Here, the red metal H and the vintage thermos help to create a fun vignette with the patriotic baskets and flags. The Coke Cola sign also has touches of red to complete the festive feel. When we entertain on the porch, the baskets are easy to move and dress up with some additional flags.

Christy at Stone Gate Cottage shares a simple vignette that feels patriotic without a flag in sight. Her color combinations are just vintage perfect.

Stacy at Bricks N Blooms is keeping it neutral but still patriotic with her rustic stars mixed with white blooms.

More Tablescape Inspiration from Instagram

Here are some examples of creating a festive tablescape that is perfect for Memorial Day without the typical stars and stripes.

Donna a Haverstraw Hill adds a fun festive feel with cherries and other red berries. Don’t you feel like celebrating with just a glance at this fun table.

There’s just something patriotic about watermelons and Becky at Southern Spangled creates the cutest display with her handmade watermelons piled in this cute red wagon.

My friend Ann at Dabbling & Decorating has the most beautiful vintage dishes and she uses them to create a dreamy, patriotic tablescape. She adds fruits and red vintage accessories to complete the patriotic feel.

There are so many creative ideas for a Patriotic theme. I hope you enjoyed these fun Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I look forward to sharing my next adventure with you.

What a wealth of wonderful patriotic ideas! I agree that it's so nice to be able to use them all summer, maybe with a little change up here and there. I especially loved the lights with the flags hanging from them, and the napkins are on the list to try. Great post, Rachel!
