DIY Rustic Flower Arrangement With A Thrifted Candle Holder

When shopping at thrift stores, I always purchase inexpensive candlestick holders. And I never have a problem finding a use for them. I recently added a rustic flower arrangement to one of my large candle holders. It turned out so adorable and was easy to make. I thought I’d share a step-by-step tutorial so that you can turn your thrifted finds into amazing arrangements in just a few minutes. Create a rustic farmhouse style by adding these arrangements to mantels, coffee table vignettes, and other decorative elements. So let’s gather a few supplies and get started.

Supply List

  • Look for candle holders designed for pillar candles for best results
  • Greenery Candle Rings (I used two for this arrangement)
  • small grapevine wreaths (I used two but you may only need one depending on your candle holder.)
  • Small Mini Ceramic Vase
  • Mini Ceramic Bird – They come in a set of 6 and I scatter them throughout the house all spring and summer.
  • Faux Flowers – I used some pink flowers for the vase and some baby’s breath for the standing wreath. You only need a tiny amount and they can be cut from a larger stem if you have something onhand.
  • Hot Glue Gun (optional)

How To Arrange The Candle Holder Base

The first step is to arrange the candle holder base. This is super easy. I used a small grapevine wreath to fill in the bottom of the candle holder. If your candle holder is flat across the top, you can most likely skip this step. Then add a greenery candle ring to the top of the candle holder.

Next, I added the mini ceramic vase to the center of the candle ring and filled it with a few stems of pink faux flowers.

How To Add The Standing Candle Ring

You have a few options for adding the standing candle ring. I decided to use double-stick adhesive and placed a piece on the backside of the candle holder, as you can see below.

Add double stick tape to the inside of the candlestick holder base to attach standing grapevine.

Next, I combined the small grapevine wreath with the second greenery candle ring by weaving the greenery stems into the grapevine. This will secure the two together. If you don’t have enough greenery to make this work, you can use a few drops of hot glue to attach them.

Finally, separate the backside of the base candle ring and press the grapevine into the double-stick tape. I added another piece at the back of the vine to secure it. You can also use hot glue to secure the grapevine to the candle holder if you prefer.

Add Finishing Touches To Candle Holder Flower Arrangement

To complete the candle holder flower arrangement, I added a few buds of baby’s breath to the greenery across the top. I tucked the stems into the grapevine, and they were secured. However, if you are concerned about them falling out of the grapevine, you can add a few drops of hot glue.

I added one of my tiny white ceramic birds to the greenery for a final touch.

I didn’t glue the bird onto the greenery; however, if you place your arrangement in a high-traffic area or where tiny hands or paws could knock it over, I’d glue it in place.

This easy arrangement is perfect for spring and summer decorating. You can use different colors of flowers to suit your decor style. I’m planning to use mine on the mantel, but there are so many options.

Due to its small size, it can be added to many vignettes to add height and charm. With the rustic details, it looks good on the baker’s rack located on our screen porch.

And it looks equally charming on the entry table with blue and white decor accessories.
