Smoke Salmon – Preparing Fish

You will want to prepare your smoked salmon ahead of time. This can be done a few days in advance if you desire.

Place one pound of salmon on foil and add salt and pepper to season. Soak hickory wood chips for 30 minutes and then add to the preheated electric smoker at 225 degrees.

Place salmon in the smoker for approx. 2 1/2 hours, depending on the thickness of the salmon.

In addition, bacon can be prepared ahead of time also. Cook bacon in the microwave between two paper towels until crispy. Crumble once cool.

Set both the salmon and bacon aside until ready to use. If not used immediately, refrigerate.

Don’t Have A Smoker

If you don’t have a smoker, you can prepare salmon on a grill and add liquid smoke to obtain a smoky flavor on the fish. Just be cautious when using liquid smoke because a little goes a long way when trying to achieve a natural smokey flavor.

If you don't have a smoker, liquid smoke can be added to salmon prepared on a grill.

This is one of the tastiest chowder recipes I’ve ever tried. It’s not as rich as some that I’ve eaten. I was able to eat the whole bowl.

We served with sweet cornbread muffins with Jalapeño peppers baked on the top.
