Dirt Road Adventures – Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day Weekend!

I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend as we honor those who gave their lives to defend our country and preserve our freedom.

It’s been such a difficult week and words escape me to express the sorrow I feel for families affected by such horrific violence.

As we gather with family and friends let’s remember and pray those who have lost so much.

We are spending the weekend at the beach and finally getting to enjoy all the renovations we made to the tiny cottage over the past several months.

Would you like to avoid hiring an electrician?

I thought I’d share a couple of the things we added to make the cottage more functional without the expense of an electrician.

First, I love this hanging light at the cottage, however the design is flawed.

The on and off switch is located next the plug end of the rope. Therefore it’s almost impossible to turn the light off and on without getting behind the sofa.

The answer is the remote wireless control switch you see beside the window. I love how this switch easily allows us to turn the light off and on.

Another problem area was over the new bar in the remodeled beach cottage.

The area that was cut out for the bar doesn’t contain any electrical outlets therefore adding additional lighting over the bar was somewhat limited without hiring an electrician.

The solution was to add these punk lights with a remote control.

The 3 lights and the remote were attached using velcro. The lights provide just the right amount of light for dining and include a dimmer for more subtle lighting. You can see the remote beside the kitchen light switch.

I was so honored to be featured on this YouTube video by Linda at Life on Summerhill. The video features several Instagram porch ceiling ideas.

This photo was taken 2 years ago just when the DIY Greenhouse was first finished.

If you love a greenhouse or she shed and would like to see more, how about this Summer Tour!

My friend Wendy at WM Design House shared my 10 Best Herbs to Grow and Why post.

In addition, it was such an honor for my 17 Patriotic Memorial Day Ideas Post was featured on Cindy’s Farmhouse Friday Link Party.

Lynn – At Home In the Wild Wood also shared my Patriotic Greenhouse Tour on her blog.

And my sweet friend CoCo shared my Patriotic Picnic ideas.

This is a look back at all my adventures this past week.

Today as I look back over this past week, I realized that so much of what was shared is perfect for this weekend.

If your plans are already made for this weekend, save this post for the Fourth of July. That’s what I love about Low Country Boils and Patriotic Decor, it works all summer long.

Why Didn’t I Think of That?

Each week, there are so many wonderful blog posts, and I’m sharing some of my favorites with you today.

There are so many creative ideas, and I’m always asking myself, “Why didn’t I think of that”? LOL

Jennifer made these sea glass bead rope from simple wood beads. I had been planning a similar DIY project but Jennifer’s idea is so much more creative and cost effective.
