Dirt Road Adventures: Happy June, Summer Decorating, & Chemo Treatment Two!

Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you donโ€™t miss any of our adventures here at the end of our Dirt Road.

Hey Friends,

Wow, what a week! It’s June, but Mother Nature obviously didn’t get the message, as we’ve had cool and rainy days most of the week here in North Carolina. I don’t think it will ever get warm enough to go in the pool. However, my lace cap hydrangeas are thriving and blooming better than ever.

But I’ve felt good all week except for one little pity party! You see, I lost my hair this week and am now officially wearing wigs or hats. But like most things, the pity party was before I had my head shaved, and afterwards, I was okay. I still don’t like to look in the mirror with my head uncovered, but it’s getting easier to accept.

In good news, I had my second treatment on Friday, and all was good. I received the sweetest gifts and such an outpouring of love, prayers, and well wishes that lifted me and humbled me. You can read all about my journey at My Cancer Journal.

This is not my typical cart list, but you can share it with someone who needs a recommendation for hair loss products. However, the Michael Kors hat and sneakers are very trendy. LOL.

I did add these links for this outfit, and the wig is from Wigs ETC. in High Point, NC. Tap the highlighted link above or the image below to get the links.

  3. Rachel the patriotic pinecone stars are great and I love your display. Well I love a hat, but I think the one you sleep in is my fav. It is different and all cotton. No worries you will get the hang of the wig and soon your hair will be back stronger than ever. i have heard but I’m not sure if you have some gray it will come back all gray. Which could be a blessing instead of going years and dying it because otherwise you look like a spotted puppy. LOL Hang in there blessings are coming.

    1. Diana,
Thank you! I’m glad you like the pinecones. I don’t have much gray now but I’ve also heard it comes back gray and at my age it probably will. I’m getting more adjusted to the wig and the hats. I appreciate your comments and prayers. Have a blessed week.

  6. Rachel,

You are in my prayers. I’m a Pinehurst-area reader of your blog. If you should need anything from the Pinehurst area, I would be happy to help and deliver to your neck of the woods, certainly just an hour away, friend. When we lost our oldest son almost 19 years ago, the Bible verse “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me”: Philippians 4:13. I hope this verse speaks to you as you navigate and beat this illness. May God Bless!

    1. Gail,
What a sweet and generous offer. I am blessed to be surrounded by my family and friends and want for nothing. I do appreciate you for following along and all your encouraging words. I’m so sorry about the loss of your son. I can’t imagine what you’ve been through. God bless you and keep you safe.

Having just read this post, I also read your cancer journal. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with such honesty and grace. Your strength, courage, and incredible attitude are truly inspiring. You are absolutely beautifulโ€”inside and outโ€”and your new wig looks fantastic!

Your words are not only helping others understand what this path can look like, but youโ€™re also creating a space filled with hope, encouragement, and connection. Iโ€™m cheering you on every step of the way and sending you strength, love, and continued healing. Hugs! ~Missy

Thank you so much for these kind and encouraging words. I have been so blessed with prayers and support from all over the world and I know that everyone doesn’t have that blessing. I hope in some small way my experience will lift others and give them hope and faith. I appreciate you for taking the time to comment. Bless you!

  8. You look lovely Rachel! I bet the denim blue Cardani hat will look beautiful on you. I live in NY and the wet, cooler weather we’ve been having is agreeing with my hydrangeas. I can already see flower buds!!

    1. Carol,
Thank you for saying this. We are warming up this week for the first time so now I’ll be complaining about the heat. LOL. Have a blessed week.

  9. Rachel, you look so cute with your new hair style. It’s lighter than your previous style. It lightens your face. The photo of you in that lovely outfit shows how good you’re feeling. I adore Harris Faulkner and I’m glad you have her book. And how fun for you that you have your beach house to soothe you. Keep up the great work.

  10. Ever the amazing source of inspiration Rachel, you never disappoint with great ideas and an enthusiastic zest for all you do! I got my Fourth of July box out and will get busy thanks to your post! You look terrific in your photo! Truly!!! 13. Just caught up on your cancer journal and it was such a good one, Rachel. When my aunts lost their hair to breast cancer treatments it was really tough on them as well. We adore them to pieces and thought they looked great but goodness was it an adjustment for them too. I love the wig you chose, truly, it looks amazing on you. I’m thankful you have such a big support system and are sharing all the ups and downs. It helps me to know how to be more compassionate as someone with a family member also going through treatments. Senidng you lots of hugs and thank yous for sharing my porch and patio projects, CoCo

    1. CoCo
Thank you for these words of encouragement. Yes, I have had remorse for not being as supportive to others in the past. Now I realize how important those messages of encouragement are to someone going through a scary time in their life. Thank you for all you do.
