The Best Ahi Tuna Recipe

Looking for a delicious Tuna recipe? Check out this favorite Ahi Tuna recipe I’ve been perfecting for a few months.

One of my favorite meals is Rare Ahi Tuna. I crave this dish from my favorite restaurant but it’s so expensive. It’s served with an asian slaw and wasabi mash potatoes which really add to the flavor. I recently ran across a hand written recipe for a Tuna Marinate and I decided to give it a try. In addition, I’ve been perfecting the sides as well.

  • ¼ cup Olive Oil Extra Virgin
  • cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • tsp minced garlic
  • ¼ cup Fresh Cilantro
  • ½ tsp Jalapeno Salt
  • 2 Ahi Tuna Steaks
  • 2 tsp Balsamic Glaze

Notes

Mix first 5 ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
Place Tuna Steaks in a zip lock bag and pour mixture over the Tuna.  Seal
Place in refrigerator for 1-2 hours prior to cook time.
Just prior to cooking, sprinkle Jalapeno Salt over the Tuna Steaks.
Heat searing burner.  Place Tuna Steaks on Burner for approx. 1 1/2 minutes per side.
Removed from heat and serve immediately.  Drizzle the Balsamic Glaze over the Ahi Tuna Steaks once they are on the plate.
Tuna Steaks will be crispy on the outside and rare on the inside.
Note:  If you don't have a searing, another option is to sear the Tuna Steaks in a Cast Iron Skillet.  Heat Skillet until very hot and sear Tuna approx. 1 1/2 minutes on each side.  Due to limited space, cooking time may be extended by another 3-4 minutes.

Marinate Tuna for 1-2 hours

I love making this recipe when I have fresh herbs. Fortunately Fresh Cilantro is fairly easy to purchase in the grocery store year round. Don’t skip the Cilantro because it really adds to the tuna flavor. A good quality Balsamic Vinegar is also recommended.

I like to use a Zip Lock bag to marinate the tuna. You can use a dish with a lid if you prefer.

Ready to Sear

Add a sprinkle of Jalapeno Salt to each tuna steak just before you are ready to sear it.

Cooking Options for The Best Seared AhiTuna

Because I’m married to The Grill Master, LOL, we have all sorts of cooking equipment. His grill is equipped with a searing burner and this is his preferred cooking method It was necessary to refer to him for this next part.

You should preheat your searing burner and then place the Tuna Steaks on the burner for approx. 1 1/2 minutes per side. Promptly remove and serve.

Cast Iron Skillet

If you don’t have a searing burner, a cast iron skillet is another great option. Be sure the skillet is very hot and sear the tuna steaks as above.

  1. This looks really yummy and a great dish to serve when company comes. I’ve cooked ahi tuna at home before, but can’t remember if I marinated it or for how long, so thanks for the recipe.

Will need to check out the sides to go with it!
