How To Shop Barn Sales – Thrifting With The Gals
What is a Barn Sale? If you are looking for unique vintage finds, you should consider shopping Barn Sales.
Barn Sales have become very popular in recent years, and most likely, you will find they are being held in your area.
I’ve been finding treasures in old barns for over 6 years, and today, I’m sharing some of my recent adventures.
In addition, I’ll share some of my favorite finds.
Thrifting With The Gals
Itโs time for our Thrifting with the Gals monthly blog hop. The thrifting gals all live in different areas of the country, but we all share a love for vintage, repurposed, and thrifted decor.
We share our thrifting adventures on our Instagram stories, and once a month, we invite a guest thrifting friend to join us to share thrifting tips, ideas, and more.
We are happy to have Michele from Vintage Home Design joining us for June. Michele is a talented and very creative decorator who loves using vintage in her home decor choices. I know you will love seeing all she is sharing with you today.
If you are joining me from Kristin at White Arrow Home, welcome. I know you loved her post on 10 Ways To Use Thrifted Minnow Buckets.
What Is A Barn Sale?
Most barn sales involve vintage and used merchandise such as you’d see in Antique Malls, Estate Sales and Garage Sales but held in a barn.
In addition, most that I’m familiar with are pop-up sales. This means you need to get on their email list or follow them on social media so that you know when their next show is scheduled.
Some have space rentals for their shows with various vendors participating, while others are individual businesses.
How Do I Find A Barn Sale Near Me?
Like most things these days, just google it.
Most also have a strong social media presence, and you can find them on Instagram and Facebook easily.
Today, I’m sharing Chartreuse Barn and The French Farmers Wife Adventures with you.
My First Experience
The first time I shopped a barn sale, I had no idea what it would be like.
My husband and I were riding down the road and saw a sign that said, “barn sale today”!
We did a U-turn, and I’ve been going back ever since.
We were building our forever farmhouse and immediately found lots of things that would be perfect for our new home.
Chartreuse Barn
Chartreuse Barn was my first experience, and once we made that U-turn, we were hooked.
That day, we brought home our coffee table, which was made by Chartreuse Barn owner Steve. He explained that it was made from wood found in the actual barn where the sale was being held.
With two barns and over 20 vendors, you will surely find something you didn’t know you needed.
From baskets and furniture to ironstone and enamelware, you will find almost anything your heart desires.
You’ll see repurposed items, chippy pieces, and fun retro mid-century pieces as well.
Some Of My Favorite Finds
In addition to the coffee table, multiple shopping trips have resulted in several unique items making their way into my home.
Another repurposed piece is the gas can lamp, which my husband surprised me with for Christmas just before we moved into the farmhouse.
In fact, the coat closet door, vintage enamelware light fixture, and architectural salvage above the barn door are all from Chartreuse Barn.
Events are held on the first Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of each month. You can follow us on Instagram for show dates. We are sorry to announce that Chartreuse has closed.
The French Farmer’s Wife Barn Events
Plan to spend some time when you attend Kathee and Gails Barn Events!
If you love authentic European treasures, this is one barn sale you don’t want to miss.
Don’t live in the area! No worries because they ship.
Don’t miss their final barn sale on Oct. 26-28, 2023. Kathlee will continue to share on Instagram and Facebook for your shopping convenience.
Do y’all remember this wooden bowl? It is one of my many finds from The French Farmer’s Wife Barn Sales.
I’ve been displaying it on my coffee table almost year-round and just changed out the decor seasonally. It may just be my favorite find.
After attending their Spring Sale recently, I thought I’d share a few vignettes that caught my eye.
I purchased my first pieces of french copper cookware a few years ago and my collection continues to grow.
In addition to all the great pieces, Kathee and Gail create such amazing displays that I want to take everything home.
Authentic European Vintage Finds Barn
You will find that some barn sales will have a mix of vintage and replicas of vintage finds.
However, you will not see any replicas at The French Farmer Wife.
Although my budget didn’t allow me to purchase this gorgeous harvest basket, it was my favorite thing from the Spring show.
A Few More of My Finds from The French Farmers Wife
I’ve never come home empty-handed from one of The French Farmer’s Wife events.
In addition to my famous wooden bowl, I have several copper pieces, breadboards, french cheese boards, and a red enamelware bowl.
My very first purchase was the chippy cabinets which I installed over my washer and dryer and this cute desk and chair that I purchased for the greenhouse. The dough bowl which is filled with dried hydrangeas has been displayed all around the house.
For future event dates, follow along on Instagram – The French Farmer’s Wife
So, in conclusion, I think you can tell I’m a fan of Barn Sales. Most of the finds I’ve brought home have helped enhance the farmhouse with a curated, unique feel.
I hope this will inspire you to search for events in your area.

Hi Rachel! I live in the country in Ohio. Our barn sales are people collecting all the stuff they want to get rid of and putting in the barn. Then they put up a big sign to advertise. They aren’t businesses. I have found some really great things at low prices. Love them!
One manโs trash is another manโs treasure as they say. You really can find a lot of hidden jewels or things that need to be repurposed.
