Dirt Road Adventures: Early Transition To Spring
Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures here at the end of our Dirt Road.
Hey friends,
I hope you have had a good week! I’ve spent most of the week updating and transiting the farmhouse into an early spring style. If you saw the weekly posts, you know I’ve primarily been working on the living room. However, we painted the kitchen island a new color, and I made a DIY Foraged Branch Centerpiece to brighten the area. I love the updated colors, and will reveal the other areas of the house that are slowly coming together.
How do you like the new color of the island? A funny thing happened when we painted the island….

I have been laboring over the color choice to update the kitchen island. I knew I wanted blue, but what shade? I love some of the darker blues but was concerned it would make the kitchen too dark. So I finally decided on Sherwin Williams Interesting Aqua.
Before I purchased the paint, I decided to prime the island with an old can of Duck Egg Annie Sloan Chalk paint (probably 7-8 years old). When I painted the island green I used chalk paint and added a dark wax. I knew that the chalk paint would be a perfect primer if it hadn’t dried up. Well, guess what!! It hadn’t dried up, and one coat of chalk paint completely covered the green. Best of all the color was an exact match to the Interesting Aqua paint sample I had chosen. How lucky is that? I just added clear wax, and the job was finished. Didn’t cost me a dime. So hang onto those old paints.

Adventures at the End of the Dirt Road
This is a look back at all my adventures this past week.
Decorating for Spring With Christmas Magnolia Wreath
After Christmas, I hung the DIY fresh magnolia wreath on the barn door. Can you believe it looks this good after 3 months? I made the wreath at the beginning of November and used it on the loft railing for the holidays. It has a fresh spring feel paired with the forced forsythia blooms and thrift store art. It’s just one of the areas featured in the living room update. I hope you like the new colors.

Let’s look at everything that happend this past week.

I love your transition to using blues. I would like to slowly introduce some blues in my home. I am more traditional/country/farmhouse with neutrals and greens. Any suggestions how I can start inserting small amounts of blues? Thank you!
Kathy,
The good news is your home is neutral so adding blue will not clash with what you already own. The least expensive (if you shop wisely) is pillow covers. You can begin with prints that include both green and blue to ease into the new color. If you like to thrift look for blue dishes that can be mixed into your cupboard, open shelves or kitchen countertop. I rarely leave a blue and white dish, platter, or dessert plate behind. A mix and match of blue dishes can be used in any room in the house. I have vintage above my bed, on a shelf in the bathroom and on my dining room wall so they can inexpensively add color without changing your basic neutrals. I hope this helps.
Rachel, thank you so much for sharing a link to one of my posts. I really appreciate it. Loving those pillow choices you have recommended. I had my eye on those pricey one but not spending that kind of money!
Tammy,
You are welcome. I know it’s crazy because next season I’ll want something different. Have the best week.
