Corn Hole Game DIY Scoreboard

Do you like to play corn hole? Do you have a scoreboard? Here is an easy way to make a DIY cornhole game scoreboard from a thrift store find.

Do y’all remember when I found that wooden stand while out thrifting with the gals? It’s okay if you don’t, because it was several months ago! I asked everyone what they thought its original purpose was, and I think the final consensus was that it was a TV tray stand.

I’m going to show you how to make a Corn Hole Game DIY Scoreboard out of this inexpensive thrift store find. When I found the stand, I knew immediately that it would be perfect for a scoreboard because it is made of solid wood and very sturdy.

I got my husband on board with the plan and gathered my supplies. Then, as happens with many projects, I didn’t do a thing with it for over 4 months. LOL

With Father’s Day Weekend approaching, I knew my time to finish the project was running out. We love playing corn hole when the kids are here, and we (meaning me) have a hard time keeping up with the score. LOL. Thankfully, after 4 months, I was able to find the stand and other supplies.

How to Build a Corn Hole Game DIY Scoreboard

The supplies needed are very simple.

Prepare the Scoreboard Materials

Begin by preparing all your materials. The galvanized metal may need to be trimmed to fit your frame. If so, be sure to use a metal blade in your circular saw to assure a smooth cut.

Although the thrift store stand was in good shape, I painted the frame black to match our cornhole boards.

Construction Details for Corn Hole Game Scoreboard

First, cut the wood trim with a miter saw to attach to the vertical length of the sheet metal. This will hold the metal firmly in the frame. Attach to the front of the frame using wood screws and paint the trim to match. The sheet metal will be placed on the back side of the trim and frame.

Next, using a cordless drill, attach the galvanized sheet metal to the frame from the back side.

My husband recommends drilling a pilot hole in the metal before screwing the metal to the wooden frame.

The trim piece also hides the sheet metal’s jagged edge and helps prevent injury from an exposed raw edge.

Add Graphics to DIY Scoreboard

To keep the numbers on the scoreboard neat, I used my Silhouette Cameo to design graphics for the cornhole game and cut them from Black Glossy Vinyl. You can also purchase vinyl numbers like these.

I’ve used my Silhouette Cameo to design several projects such as the Feed Sack Fabric and the Vintage Inspired Sign.

Finally, using a black sharpie, draw the horizontal lines on the sheet metal. I used a ruler to try to draw a straight line.

Keeping Score

There are several options for your magnets to help keep score. I have several Scrabble tiles and decided to use the D & L for Dark and Light Corn Hole Bags. I used a self-adhesive magnet on the back of each tile.

I’ll be interested to see what ideas you have for keeping score.

I may eventually paint the tiles to match the bags, but for now, they work just fine.

We enjoyed playing corn hole over Father’s Day weekend with our daughter and son-in-law. Now that I have a new Corn Hole Game DIY Scoreboard, I don’t have to worry about keeping the score in my head. LOL.
