Dirt Road Adventures: The Joys Of Country Living

Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures – The Joys of Country Living. Each Sunday, we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures.

Cozy Winter Bedroom with Valentine Wreaths made with Dollar Tree frames and DIY paper roses.

Hey friends, I hope you have had a great week.

We have enjoyed the joys of country living this past week. As in, not really.

Due to the winter storms, we spent several hours without power on Tuesday evening. The winds and rain were some of the worst we’ve seen. Rudy spent most of his time in the bathroom shaking.

Then we spent Wednesday picking up fallen limbs along our driveway. Plus, it looked like half our gravel was washed away. Brad spent hours trying to fill back the washed-away areas. Only to be threatened with the same weather again on Friday evening. However, Friday wasn’t nearly as bad, and Rudy was the only one upset. Ah, the joys of country living.

We were actually very fortunate compared to many who were without power for many hours and those who were flooded or had large trees down.

We love living in the middle of nowhere and the privacy our long dirt road provides. However, the challenge of keeping the road drivable after storms and the frequent power outages are some of the downsides of our country life.

After living in town all of our adult life, the move to the country was an adjustment. We can no longer just run out to the store in five minutes, so we have to plan our meals (or rather, Brad plans our meals and shops).

We also learned quickly that a generator was a must-have for our home. After losing our power for three days one winter, a generator was installed.

Otherwise, we love our country lifestyle and love sharing snippets with you on Dirt Road Adventures. I appreciate you for showing up weekly and following along.

So, let’s see what else happened this week.

In Case You Missed It

First, these comfort foods really came in handy this past week. With the threat of power outages, our crock pot was filled early in the day to ensure a hearty meal as we hunkered down for the storm.

What’s in my cart

This week, I slowed down my shopping. I did stock up on some of my vitamins and other supplements.

However, I’m getting the itch to get back to the thrift stores, and this week, on Thrifting with the Gals, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite finds.

I’ve been using this Collagen Powder in my coffee each morning for a year, and my nails have really improved.

I just received my third pair of these comfortable Jogging pants.

I made your upside down German Chocolate cake. Wasn’t sure if I baked it long enough, but my family loved it and told me not to lose the recipe

We experience the same weather issues here on our farm. We now have solar and a generator, so we always have power and heat now. This week we have had snow since Friday and it won't thaw until Wednesday. The good news is that the grandkids are snowed in here at the farm. What fun. Thank you so much for the feature. Hugs and blessings to you.

Hi Rachel! I’m glad your power is back on and hoping you are staying warm. We have had a little snow and freezing temps but nothing like you. Goodness! Thank you for sharing my paperwhites post this week. So thoughtful. Hugs, Kelly

I'm going to make one or two of those Valentine wreaths. I just need to figure out what I want to cover them in, love the sherpa look. I too am in NC and Tuesday was bad Friday was doable. Thank you for sharing these easy DIY projects, love it. I hate when the pets get upset during storms, it isn't like you can change it, but snacks are a distraction LOL

Diana, If you are close to a Hobby Lobby, they sometimes have the shepa fleece on sale. Can't wait to see what you make.
