I love to stock up on all the ingredients needed for this easy crock pot chili. Everything can be kept in the pantry, ready for that snowy day that is perfect for a pot of chili.

The only fresh ingredients in this recipe are onion and ground beef.

Preparation for Chili Recipe

Begin by chopping a large onion and adding it to a large skillet with a tablespoon of butter.

Saute the onion on medium heat, constantly stirring until the onion begins to soften.

Next, add the ground beef and cook over medium heat until the beef is browned.

Drain in grease or liquid from the beef.

Add Canned Ingredients and Spices

This recipe for slow cooker chili is just an open-and-dump recipe.

First, place the cooked ground beef in crockpot.

Open each of the following ingredients and dump them into the pot.

  • 2 cans of dark red kidney beans
  • 1 can fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes

Next, add spices as follows

  • 1/2 Tbsp. Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Stir all ingredients until well mixed.

Turn the crockpot on low and simmer for a minimum of 3 hours.

Mix all ingredients into a large crock pot or slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. butter
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 -16 oz. can fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 2 -16 oz. cans Dark Kidney Beans
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese optional
  • Sour Cream optional
  • jalapeño peppers optional

Instructions

  • Chop onion
  • Add butter and chopped onion to a large skillet
  • Cook until onion is soft
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned
  • Drain any liquid
  • Add all ingredients to the crock pot
  • cook on low for a min. of 3 hours.
  • Serve with Sour Cream and/or Shredded Cheddar Cheese, jalapeno peppers (all Optional)

Notes

Do not drain the kidney beans.
You can substitute ground beef for ground turkey if you'd like.
