What are Tobacco Stick Lanterns?
Today, I am using a tobacco stick lantern for my centerpiece idea.
Tobacco Stick Lanterns are made from sticks that were used to hang tobacco in barns, allowing it to dry.
The sticks are now used in DIY crafts such as Lanterns, Ladders, Art Frames, etc.
This lantern is a thrift store find and is a fun, rustic decor piece that I enjoy using to decorate.

The Idea For Lantern As Centerpiece!
Each month, Cindy at Country Road 407 finds an image on Pinterest as inspiration for the Challenge. This month’s theme is Spring Lantern, and the inspiration photo comes from Ann at On Sutton Place.
Seeing each person’s interpretation of the inspirational photo is always fun. If you are joining me from Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, Welcome. I’m sure you loved her Spring lantern inspiration.
I used my rustic Tobacco Stick Lantern for today’s challenge instead of a white lantern.

How I Styled My Rustic Lantern As A Centerpiece
Here are the supplies I used to create my Rustic Spring Lantern as a centerpiece idea.
These are the elements from Ann’s inspiration photo.
- Lantern
- Bunnies
- Carrots
- Woven Tray
- Pitcher

Tobacco Stick Lantern Ideas
I decided to style my screened porch table with the tobacco stick lantern as a centerpiece.
I began with the woven tray and added a pewter bunny and a small greenery candle ring inside the tobacco stick lantern.

Next, I added a smaller coordinating bunny and a trio of preserved moss balls. The moss can fade quickly on the porch, and I use this technique to keep the moss looking fresh for years.

A chunky thrifted candleholder and a milk glass vase with faux Dollar Tree carrots complete the items in the woven tray.

In addition, a few carrots fill the DIY light fixture above the table.

Spring Centerpiece – Rustic Tobacco Stick Lantern
The rustic spring centerpiece using an upcycled tobacco stick lantern is a stylish addition to the screen porch table.
I included a stack of white ironstone dessert plates with a porcelain bird, an Easter Egg tea towel, and a pewter pitcher to complete the Lantern as Centerpiece.

Finally, the sideboard is also filled with Spring and Easter Decor.
This includes concrete bunnies and Easter Bunny dishes.

Oh, Rachel! I love this! My grandson said, โoh, that tablescape is so cute!โ So funny that a four year old knows the world tablescape. He actually made his first charcuterie board at Christmas. The life of a blogger. ๐
Renae,
Yes, I catch my husband using words like dupe and hack! LOL

LOL! I can’t believe we both had the same idea to use the tobacco stick lantern AND silver bunnies! Yours are adorable and I love how you put your vignette together. Your lantern must be slightly smaller because I don’t have a tray large enough to fit it. I love it! Thanks for joining in. pinned
Cindy,
Thanks so much for organizing.
Rachel, this tobacco stick lantern is a really cool idea! I am not a fan of tobacco but I do like the old barns and accessories that were used in the drying process. Really sweet vignette with your lantern, the two bunnies and all those carrots!!! Fun!
Happy almost spring to you,
Barb ๐
Barb,
Yes this is a much better use of the tobacco sticks.

Yes, it’s been a fun decor accessory.
This is the first time I’ve heard of a tobacco stick lantern Rachel. This is the cutest vignette.
Kim
I guess it’s a southern thing. I’m glad you liked it.
The most simplistic centerpieces can have the largest impact. Love the rustic feel, had no idea what a tobacco stick is, but you won’t find them in Canada, I love them. I adore the dishware you have displayed in the background as well. Beautiful
Leanna,
Thank you for your sweet comments. I’ve determined that this lantern is a southern thing. LOL
