Why Lambs Are Perfect for My Easter Mantel?

I love using lambs to decorate for Easter. Lambs are one of the most significant and oldest symbols of Easter, carrying both deep religious meaning and a strong secular connection to the Spring season. I have used my collection on tablescapes, coffee tables, and kitchen countertops in previous years. This year, I added a framed DIY fluffy lamb cross stitch to my office area and a pair of DIY Boutique-Style Lambs to my coffee table centerpiece. Therefore, it was a natural choice to complete my Easter decorating by adding a few of my lambs to the mantel.

My Collected Lamb Mantel Decor

By using thrifted decor mixed with inexpensive DIY projects, pulling the Easter mantel together was very budget-friendly. One of my favorite thrifted finds, a lamb planter, is the centerpiece of the mantel. I repurposed a greenery candlering to fill the planter with a touch of green without overwhelming it.

A pair of fuzzy lambs is highlighted under a glass cloche on a vintage brass tray, sitting at one end of the mantel. They are balanced at the opposite end by a pair of metal flower candleholders, holding battery-operated candles and a sweet thrifted lamb at their base.

I’ve had the glass cloche for several years, and it was a splurge purchase. However, I use it almost continuously when decorating for each season, and it was well worth the investment.

Add DIY Mantel Decor For High-End Style

One of the best ways to ensure a high-end Easter mantel on a budget is to create DIY boutique-style decor. One of my favorite projects this year is the felt flower garland and bug motif Easter Eggs.

DIY Spring Garland

The first touch of Spring added to my mantel was DIY Felt Flower Garland. With purchased felt wood balls, felt leaves, and wire, this garland came together for a fraction of what they cost in the store. In addition, I was able to customize the size and colors. The garland sets the tone for a soft, sweet Easter Mantel.

DIY Wooden Easter Eggs

Another DIY project that helped pull the Easter mantel together was the bug-motif wooden Easter eggs. I used wooden eggs and craft paint, and the bugs were made with hot glue. They give it a high-end look without breaking the bank.

I displayed the eggs on a variety of vintage brass candlestick holders, which are all thrift-store finds.

The leftover felt balls are displaced in a handmade wooden bowl that my brother made and gifted me. The rustic texture of the bowl adds an interesting contrast to the brass candlestick.

Styling the Spring Mantel

When planning the mantel decor, I wanted to add pops of color, texture, and greenery. Here are the key elements to mantel decorating.

  • Create vignettes with a variety of heights
  • Create vignettes with odd numbers.
  • Mix metals, glass, wood, and fabrics for texture.
  • Include Spring greenery

To start, I wanted to give the mantel a cozy feel, so I added an eucalyptus garland at the back. Next, I added candlestick holders in a variety of heights to display the DIY eggs. You’ll notice I have six eggs, but I used five (an odd number) at one end. The remaining egg stands alone at the other end. To help balance the single candlestick, I added a bowl of felt balls.

The felt wood ball garland and the painted wooden eggs provide pops of color reminiscent of dyed Easter eggs.

I used books at both ends of the mantel to add height. The vintage brass pieces help make the decor shine against the natural wood mantel and keep the eye moving from vignette to vignette.

Pro Tips For Achieving a High-End Spring Mantel That’s Budget-Friendly

To keep your Spring decorating budget-friendly, stop before running to the store. Begin with what you already own. Here are my top insider tips.

  • Take an inventory of what you already own. If you are like me, you may already have everything you need. Maybe you’ve used it elsewhere in previous years, but it will look new again in a different location.
  • Use thrifted decor when possible. I don’t like investing a lot of money in seasonal decor that will only be displayed for a short time. Therefore, I always check out the seasonal sections at thrift stores. In addition, there are some items that are a must-have for creating a mantel or tabletop vignette. Here are a few staple items that will work with any vignette.
    • Brass Candlesticks
    • Old Books For Risers
    • Wooden risers
    • Trays to gather smaller items.
    • Brass or Silver pieces to reflect light.
  • DIY boutique-style seasonal decor will save money. One of my favorite ways to shop is visiting high-end boutiques either in person or online. I snap photos or screenshots of items I like, then try to figure out how to make them myself for less.
    • The bug-motif decorative Easter eggs I used would be cost-prohibitive if purchased at a boutique. I would only be able to afford 1 or 2 eggs at that price. However, by making them myself, I was able to add 6 eggs for a fraction of the cost.
  • Repurpose greenery. Even damaged pieces can be used to fill gaps in vignettes if placed creatively. I cut away any damaged areas and use them to fill planters or even add a scattering of leaves in a dish or around the base of a figurine.
  • When you save on most of the decor, you can splurge on one or two items that will add an instant high-end feel to the mantel.

  2. Hi Rachel, I followed a link to this post from Thistlewood Farms, and fell in love! I love sheep and lambs, too, and have been collecting them for years. My two favorites are a carved wooden lamb made from Olive Wood that I got in Bethlehem, and a little clay cutie that my oldest daughter made for me. I immediately followed all of your links that I could find to your lamb posts, and have copied them all down, and printed out your patterns. Thank you for sharing, and for your beautiful ideas. I especially like the cross stitched lamb and the little clay lamb on canvas. Your home is lovely. Have a blessed Easter as we “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)
