Unique Vintage Bedroom Decor Ideas
Using vintage and vintage inspired bedroom decor works well in a modern farmhouse. Therefore, I’m always looking out for unique items that can be used to decorate the farmhouse. Authentic vintage decor creates a unique style that is hard to duplicate exactly. However, these tips will give you some inspiration that will help you to create your own unique vintage bedroom style.
Simple Thrifted Finds
First, y’all know I love thrift store finds. Although many items are not vintage, they are all unique to me. Here is a thrifted tray, some vintage books and a DIY aged clay pot filled with Angel Vine to enhance the bed.
The bedside is filled with many vintage finds. First, is a primitive stool which holds a vintage bowl filled with a plant. The bedroom side chair is repurposed, using drop cloth fabric with a DIY feed sack design. You may enjoy seeing how to make the Vintage Inspired Feed Sack Fabric on this post. In addition, the side table holds another repurposed chest, made from an old silverware box. This trash to treasure projects can be seen here.
Layer to Make Small Decor Shine
When you have smaller decor pieces, adding layers of vintage is a great way to add impact. Here is a vintage bird print that I inherited from my aunt. In order to make the print stand out, it is hanging over a vintage ceiling tile that was purchased in Wilmington, NC. It was left over from the project over our front doors. You may remember that I saw some similar while Thrifting with the Gals in Wilmington last week.
Here is another example of layering which helps bring attention to smaller decor pieces. This vintage print was a fabulous thrift store purchase for only $1.00. The small print is layered over a vintage shutter to give it impact. Along with the old window and architectural pieces, the color combination is perfect for the vintage inspired bedroom.
add More Layers
Do you remember the black and white ticking bedspread seen here. I have used it on this bed for several seasons. However, instead of replacing the bedspread, I used it as a bed skirt for a vintage quilt. It’s obvious that beds were smaller in our grandparents time and the heirloom quilt needed a bed ruffle in order to work on the bed.
In addition, the DIY Scrap Fabric Pillow Cover was inspired by the shades of pink & yellow found in the quilt.
Repurposed Bedroom Decor
The repurposed gun cabinet is a handmade piece from my dad and is filled with family photo’s and vintage linens. No one in the family wanted this out dated gun cabinet but a coat of paint and shelving made it a treasured piece for the guest bedroom. Several milk glass vases are filled with faux tulips to add additional pops of pink throughout the room.
The antique iron bed, quilt, trunk & clock are all inherited family pieces that we are blessed to display. When you can pull your unique vintage pieces together, the bedroom has a cohesive retro feel.
The vintage window screens add a perfect backdrop for the new pendant lights on either side of the bed. In addition, they allow more space on the bedside tables for vintage displays.
I hope these 9 Unique Vintage Bedroom Ideas will inspire you to use your inherited and vintage decor to create your own unique style.
