5 Cozy Bedroom Ideas
“We spend nearly half of our lifetime lying around in bed” according to this NY Post article.
Therefore, the bedroom is a big deal, however it can be a neglected area of our home when it comes to decorating.
Why do we decorate the bedroom last?
Some would say, because guest don’t see the bedroom. Who are you trying to impress? Decorate your spaces so that YOU love them, not to impress others.
Because we spend so much time here, it’s important that we spend some time creating a space that YOU love.
Bedrooms should always have a warm cozy feel in my opinion and these budget friendly tips work for any season to keep your spaces inviting.
Warm and Cozy Bedding
The first and most obvious way to make your bedroom warm and cozy is to invest in quality bedding.
I do like to splurge on organic cotton sheets because they do enhance my sleep quality and they feel wonderful.
However, there is a wide range of super cozy quilts, comforters, throw blankets and pillows to choose from and many are very budget friendly.
This bedding is from Piper Classics and they have great prices. This ruffled quilt can be seen here and the floral pillow covers are available here.
I updated the master bedroom bedding last spring and you can see more details here.
I prefer to layer my bedding which also helps to keep your choices budget friendly.
Instead of one heavy comforter, I like lighter weight pieces like quilts and blankets stacked together.
This allows you to remove layers as the weather warms up. In addition, if you and your husband have different comfort levels, you can easily remove cover from one side of the bed (mine)!
Another tip is to keep the main bedding pieces neutral. This allows you to add colorful seasonal pillows and create a whole different feel within the room without replacing the more expensive pieces.
Little touches like adding a diy music note heart garland and vintage quilt hearts add just a touch of romance for Valentine’s Day!

Warm and Cozy Bedroom Ideas – Woods and Whites
I’ve always love the combination of warm wood tones mixed with shades of white.
Adding the wooden candlesticks really warms up the upside down mantel above the bed and brings out the natural wood of the headboard as well.
The side table is a flea market flip that was transformed with this Easy 3 Step Furniture Makeover
Candles
In addition to the candlesticks, adding a little candle light really ups the cozy factor in any room. Here I’ve added flameless flicker candles above the bed and they create warmth without being a fire hazard. You can see the flameless candles here.
The side table visible here is an amazing furniture transformation that you can see here.
Mirrors to lighten a dark bedroom
Adding mirrors to reflect light from the candles and other objects, like glass and brass help to brighten a dark room.
Collecting mirrors from thrift stores is a budget friendly way to add to your bedroom decor. Even if the frame is dark, a fresh coat of white or gold paint is an easy fix. See more about successful thrift store shopping here.
In addition, tucking small mirrors into a dark cupboard will add dimension to small shelves and make object appear larger. Everything within the room appears brighter with the addition of mirrors.
Brass adds cozy warmth to bedroom decor
Vintage Brass pieces also help to reflect warm light within the bedroom. I alway pick up vintage brass candlesticks at thrift stores because you can use them throughout the whole house. In addition, brass is on trend right now and you can find some great vintage pieces.
Here a brass planter is filled with rolled music sheets and covered with a glass cloche. The doll chair serves as a candle stand for a winter Antique Candle Co. scent.
The TV is surrounded with warm candles, a brass tray filled with pinecones with a touch of faux snow. The addition of winter greenery, music pages and an antique mirror create an interesting wall behind the TV.
A combination of woods and whites also help to distract for the dreaded black box in the room.
Warm and Cozy Bedroom Ideas – Rugs
Another more obvious warm and cozy bedroom idea is to add an area rug. There are so many great options now available in washable rugs. Check out this favorite new rug from Boutique Rugs.
