Clever Small Beach Cottage Stove Replacement: Efficient & Space-Saving

Our tiny beach cottage only had room for a small stove to begin with, so when the old one started giving us problems, we didn’t want to shell out for another overpriced model. Instead, we came up with a custom workaround that provided extra storage space and offered more versatile cooking options for our vacation home. Let me show you what we did!

Small Kitchen Stove Before
The original beach cottage stove was small but still took up much-needed kitchen space. In addition, most items overcooked in the basic oven setup. When we began to have problems with the oven, we were disappointed to see very limited options for the small space. The cost of replacing it with another similar oven was high; we didn’t feel it would be an improvement. That’s when we started to get creative.
When we updated our cottage in 2022, Brad built these open kitchen cabinets, and they have been very functional and space-saving. We decided it would be fairly easy to expand the cabinets to include the space where the stove sits. So out with the old stove, and in with open shelving to hold the new oven while still leaving room for storage.
Old Stove Replacement Ideas
Once we came up with the idea to expand the open cabinets, we ordered the new appliances. It was important to have the appliances on hand to ensure a proper fit. Brad took careful measurments to extend the countertop and add two additional shelves. One would hold the new oven and the bottom shelf would be extra storage.
He cut all the necessary pieces at home and then installed them once we were back at the beach cottage.
A New Oven for Tiny Kitchen
The first item we needed was a small oven. Brad is a fan of Ninja products. He owns a Ninja Smoker/Grill for both home and the beach. Plus, he uses the Ninja air fryer at home all the time. So it was a natural choice to purchase the Ninja Prestige Smart XL Countertop Oven. Not only does it have plenty of space for vacation baking, but it also serves as an air fryer, toaster, roaster, and dehydrator. With 10 different cooking functions, it can handle all of our cooking needs and more.
The oven fits easily in the open shelf Brad added to the existing cabinets.
New Drop-in Two Burner Cooktop
In the old range, we had 4 burners but only used one regularly. At most, we used two burners at one time. So, choosing a two-burner cooktop seemed reasonable and helped to save space on the countertop.
The Karienvir 2-Burner Electric Cooktop had great reviews and fit the space perfectly.
Brad surrounded the cooktop with inexpensive marble-look tile that only required a few cuts to fit perfectly in the space.
It provides a safe, clean workspace that was missing with the old stove in place.
Extra Storage Space With New Stove Set-up
The new stove set-up allowed Brad to add another bottom shelf under the oven for additional storage. All the Astor stackable cookware and lids fit perfectly and are easily accessible.
Sleek New Kitchen Stove and Countertop
The new kitchen stove option gives the beach cottage countertop a sleek, clean, modern feel. We have used both the oven and the stovetop several times and have been thrilled with how easy they are to use. The new oven is smaller but still holds all but the largest of pans, which is perfectly efficient for our vacation usage.
Safety Precautions With High Wattage Appliances
The cooktop and the Ninja oven are both high wattage appliances. Therefore, for safety reasons, it is necessary to ensure that each was plugged into a dedicated electrial outlet. Since we didn’t have two outlets within reach, we had an electrician install a second outlet. This was an added expense to the project but one that gives us peace of mind. We didn’t want to create a fire hazard.
Anytime you are changing appliances, it is important to check the safety precautions before installation to ensure that you are not overloading your electrial system.
Conclusion
We are loving the new look and convenience of the updated oven and cooktop. The project didn’t really save us any money since we had to hire an electrician. However, we are much happier with the sleek new style than we would have been with a similar stove replacement.
