Let me share the tutorial and the supplies you need to make these snow globes, along with some additional designs you’ll want to make also.

Snow Globe Christmas Ornament Inspiration

Y’all know that I love shopping, looking, and taking photos in high-end boutiques. I was admiring and loving all the Woodland Snow Globe Christmas Ornaments adorning the trees in this boutique. But if I spent $100, I’d still only have 5 ornaments for my tree. Yikes.

I snapped a photo of this bird-glass-globe ornament and another with a reindeer. Then I came home and did some shopping. Once I found the blown glass globes, I knew I could duplicate this boutique style for a fraction of the cost, and it was so easy. I made all 8 for only $20.00, and it took less than 1 hour.

How To Get The Boutique Style Christmas Ornament

To get a boutique-style Christmas ornament, it’s all in the details. These glass globe ornaments are so easy to duplicate. First, get good images of your inspiration. Then see what the supplies will cost you. Once I found the glass globes, I was golden. Both Hobby Lobby and Dollar Tree have several options for mini Christmas decor. I also found larger quantities on Amazon.

Look for what sets this ornament apart. I realized that adding a little snow inside and a little glitter on top made all the difference. You’ll also note that I added an on-trend velvet ribbon to give it an even more expensive look, in my opinion.

Look For Budget Supplies

If you only want one boutique-style Christmas ornament, you may be better off purchasing it at the shop; however, if you are like me and want to fill your tree with these $20.00 lovely ornaments, you can save a lot by buying in bulk. Amazon has larger quantities of some of the supplies I used. So shop around before purchasing. I didn’t go to Michael’s, but they are another good source for these types of supplies.

Step-By-Step Reindeer Snow Globe Ornaments

As I said, I made 8 ornaments in one hour. The key is to get everything set up and do one task for all ornaments at a time. I began by adding the snow to each globe and ended with the upscale ribbons.

Adding Snow To Globe

I purchase a small bag of faux snow and it only took a tiny bit for each globe. Begin by using a small brush and painting the flat bottom of the inside of the glass globe with gloss Mod Podge. You can allow the glue to rise up along the sides if you prefer.

Then pour a small amount of the faux snow inside the globe. Shake around until all the glue is covered with snow and pour any that is loose back into the bag. You can press the snow into the glue if you want a heavier coverage.

How To Prepare Reindeer

It’s okay to add your small reindeer to the glass globe just as he is. However, I decided to enhance him just a bit. I wanted him to shine inside the snow globe so here’s what I did.

  1. Brush Mod Podge over his antlers.
  2. Dip the antlers into the gold glitter, then shake off the excess.
  3. Tie a gold bow around his neck.

How To Attach Bottle Brush Trees & Reindeers

First, add the bottle brush tree to the back side of the glass globe. Add a drop of hot glue to the wood base of the tree and press it to the bottom of the glass.

Next, add the reindeer by adding a drop of hot glue to each of its hooves. Place the reindeer slightly in front of the tree and visible from the opening of the globe. Press and hold until it is secured to the bottom of the globe.

Adding Glitter

One thing I noticed about the boutique ornaments was the glitter along the top of the glass. It catches the light on the tree and really enhances the ornament’s value. It’s so easy to create.

First, apply a coat of gloss Mod Podge around the hanger on the glass globe. Use random jagged strokes.

Then sprinkle with some of the gold and silver fine glitter. I used both colors but it looks good with either one.

How To Add Hangers

The blown glass globes come with jute twine for making ornament hangers. However, I decided on a more upscale look and used velvet ribbon to make a bow and gold metallic twine for the hanger.

I tied a metallic ribbon through the glass hook and then used hot glue to attach the ribbon.

Customize Your Woodland Snow Globe Scenes

In addition to adding custom ribbons and hangers, there are so many options when creating these woodland snow globe scenes. From gathering foraged pinecones and acorns to adding other woodland mini-creatures.

How To Create Different Snow Globe Ornament Christmas Scenes

I was so excited about the reindeer snow globes that I decided to make a few additional styles. I found some small birds to duplicate the original boutique inspiration piece, and some small snowmen that turned out adorable as well. The step-by-step process is the same as for the reindeer, just switching out the supplies you use and adhering with hot glue.

Additional Supplies for Bird Snow Globe Ornaments

I first added a couple of small twigs, then placed the bird on top. Finally, I added a couple of small acorns or pinecones that I gathered from my yard.

Additional Supplies for Snowman Snow Globe

For the snowman ornaments, I cut the hanger from the hat and sanded the top smooth. Then I used hot glue to attach a ribbon scarf around each one’s neck. Finally, I added the bottle brush tree at the back and the snowman at the front of the globe opening.

How To Display Your Custom Christmas Ornaments

I made my initial ornaments to decorate my tree, and that is the most common use for these adorable decorations. However, there are other ways to display them.

You can hang them on a garland along your banister, mantel, or around your doorway. In addition, they would add a decorative touch to a pegboard or suction-cup hooks on windows.

One thing I love about the glass globes I used is that their bottoms are flat. Therefore, you can use your ornaments for more than just decorating a tree. They can sit safely on a tabletop, shelf, or bookcase. Gather several together to create a seasonal vignette almost anywhere in your home this holiday season.

Gift Ornaments

After making all the ornaments I needed for my tree, I began to create more as thank-you gifts. They are perfect hostess, girlfriend, or teacher’s gifts, great for Secret Santa, and more.

Final Breakdown

There is no doubt you can save money creating your own Snow Globe Christmas Ornaments. The more you make, the more you save. I initially made eight ornaments from the 12-pack of globes I received. I already had the glitter, Mod Podge, and hot glue, and I only used a tiny bit of each. Purchasing a larger quantity resulted in each ornament costing me about $2.50. By adding the optional velvet-and-gold metallic ribbon, the price increased by a few cents per ornament, but it was still well under $3.50 per ornament. I think they look as good as the $20.00 versions, and who could tell the difference? Your tree will look amazing, and if you decide to use them as gifts, your friends will be impressed by this trending Christmas ornament style.

Not all DIY projects are as budget-friendly as this one, but it’s always worth investigating whether you can create your holiday decorations for less.
