How to Style a Fall Tablescape with Vintage Browns, Blues, and Brass

Hey friends! I recently found a set of vintage blue dessert plates while thrifting, and as I was pulling out my traditional brown and amber fall tableware, I decided to try mixing them together. Adding rich blue tones gives the rich autumn colors a fresh, unexpected feel. Today, I’m taking you step-by-step through the setting and showing you how I styled several other thrifted treasures to bring this unique table together.

Step-by-Step Brown & Blue Place Setting

I love mixing patterns and colors to create place settings that are visually interesting. I always begin by pulling out several of my thrift store tableware finds. Sometimes I don’t know if the results will be cohesive until I see them on the table, but that’s part of the fun. I encourage you to play with unexpected combinations and see what happens. It can be boring to play it safe with matchy-matchy pieces.

Let me show you my step-by-step process.

The base is an old thrifted set of blue placemats, topped with wooden handle trays

Next, I used a large white plate charger and added my vintage transferware diner plates in brown, white, and yellow.

To top off the table place setting, I put an apple in each compote cup.

The place setting is complete with a set of thrift store wooden napkin rings and beige linen napkins. The silverware is a vintage-inspired bone handle set by Annova.

Fall Tablescape Centerpiece

I love thinking outside the box and creating centerpiece ideas that don’t include flowers. For this tablescape, I added a wooden riser with a white plate. I filled the plate with pinecones and pine needles, with my DIY Gold Pheasant as the focal point.

Natural Table Runner

Vintage Plate Wall

To complete the fall tablescape visual display, I added brown, blue, and white vintage dishes on the gallery wall. At the center is a gathering basket filled with faded green stems.
