Dirt Road Adventures: Easter Weekend, Spring Projects, Finding Purpose!

Happy Sunday, and welcome to Dirt Road Adventures! This is where we review all the exciting events behind the scenes, on the website, and the sources of inspiration I discovered online during the past week. This weekly recap ensures you don’t miss any of our adventures here at the end of our Dirt Road.

dogwood bloom

Hey friends! Happy Easter! We are spending this blessed holiday at our beach cottage and experiencing amazing weather. Our state flower, the dogwood, is now in full bloom. As I snapped this photo, I was reminded of the spiritual significance of the dogwood bloom. Did you know that the four petals represent the cross on which Jesus died? And that the indents on the tips represent nail scars, and the red stains represent his blood. The central cluster of flowers is seen as the crown of thorns that was placed on his head. The dogwood is also a reminder of new life. They usually bloom around Easter as nature awakens in Spring.

We have an area on our property where the power company cleared a section of trees, and as I was walking, I noticed, from a distance, what I thought was a dogwood tree. I had never noticed a dogwood in that area, so I went for a closer inspection. It wasn’t a dogwood, and I’m not sure what it is, but it was huge and full of butterflies. I tried to capture a photo of the many butterflies, but they were too quick for me. They were all identical to the one I captured in the photo below. I stood there mesmerized by how many there were and how quickly they moved from flower to flower. I had never seen any blooms in this area before. What had been choked out by surrounding trees was once again given new life, and boy, were the butterflies happy. It may be a wild plant or something transplanted by the birds. If you know what it’s called, I’d love to know.

Getting away from home and breaking our routine gives me time to reflect on many things. You see it was Easter weekend last year that I first suspected some was wrong with me. By the next weekend, I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. I’ve been praying for God to show me my purpose in all this. Why was I chosen to suffer this disease? I’ve updated my journal with some heavy thoughts, and I hope you will read it. My Healing Journal can be found here.

Adventures at the End of the Dirt Road

This is a look back at all my adventures this past week.

Can you believe it’s April? I feel like spring is rushing by, so I’ve been extra busy with some of my projects. Easter slipped up on me, but I think I’ve shared most of my ideas. My favorite from this week is the Pottery Barn-inspired Spring dishes. I couldn’t resist making a few plates with Easter bunnies, and I shared those along with the other dishes that you can use all Spring and Summer long. I’m also loving coming up with “Old School” crochet projects. I hope you liked the purse charm idea. But in case you missed anything, here’s a recap of all the posts from last week.
