Last Minute Porch Ideas for the 4th of July

How To Add Simple Flags to Your Porch!

Inexpensive American flags are so easy to incorporate into your porch decor. They can be added to existing plants and flowers just by sticking them into the soil.

They don’t have to be included in a plant. You can create a darling vignette in seconds by adding them to a flower frog. Use them on your porch tables or sit them by the door.

Add Red or White Flowers To Decorate Porches

A quick run to the garden nursery for some red or white flowers will instantly add a patriotic feel to your porch decor. Add the flowers to a garden planter or a basket temporarily. If they need to be planted in the ground, you can do so after the 4th of July weekend.

The patriotic stars are easy to make with pinecones and spray paint. You can see the tutorial at Patriotic Pinecone Stars.

You can mix your real flowers with artificial ones. For this patriotic 4th of July porch, I added real flowers to the galvanized tubs and faux flowers to the hanging baskets on the shutters. The fade-resistant geraniums have lasted for several seasons.

The blue and white rug adds the finishing touch, and all of this can be accomplished for a last-minute look.

Throw Blankets and Pillows In Red, White, or Blue

When adding blankets or pillows for 4th of July decorating, they don’t have to be red, white, and blue. They can be a solid red or blue and will still give the porch an updated feel.

Don’t overlook your holiday throws and pillows. I usually store these red, white & blue pillows after Christmas, but they work equally well for the 4th of July. If you have red textiles stored away, pull them out now. I’ve used these red-and-white buffalo-check pillow covers for both occasions.

Look for Anything Red White, or Blue To Decorate Your Porch

When I say anything red, I mean if you have something red stored away in your closets, pull it out to see if it can be added to your porch decor.

Here are some things to look for that you have not considered.

  • Red or blue dishes, platters, cake stands, or water goblets. Don’t limit these items to holidays. Bring them to the table for the 4th of July.
  • Candle holders or candles. A couple of red or blue candles are an inexpensive & quick decor trick.
  • Bird houses – I love collecting bird houses, and I’ve been known to paint them the color I need at the moment.
  • Lanterns – I have a red lantern that sits on the porch for added color.
  • Bowls and planters in red, white, or blue. Switch out your neutral planters with patriotic colors.
  • Faux Flowers – fill containers and baskets with red flowers for an immediate patriotic twist.
  • Red, white, or blue ribbon – tie a ribbon around a planter, candlestick, or candle holder for instant color. If you have a greenery or neutral wreath, just quickly update it with a new bow.

Red, White, and Blue Plates

Set the porch table with red, white, and blue dishes for a stunning patriotic feel. Don’t have red dishes; use red napkins. Even just a touch of blue on the vintage plates will pull the theme together.

These watermelon plates are not exactly patriotic but work well for creating a 4th of July feel on the porch coffee table. In addition, a vintage white ironstone pitcher is very patriotic with red geraniums and small flags

Red Thrift Store Finds

I’m always on the lookout for seasonal decor when thrifting, and here are a couple of pieces that help me to quickly add a touch of red to the porch for the 4th of July.

The small red birdhouse was a cheap thrift-store find and adds just a pop of color to the primitive cabinet on the front porch. The red candleholder was also inexpensive, and I’ve used it for Christmas and patriotic decorating.

The ironstone pitcher filled with small flags, paired with the thrifted red lantern, is another perfect pop of color for the festive porch side table.

In Conclusion

You don’t have to spend a lot of money or time creating a festive porch for the 4th of July. A few pops of anything red, white, or blue will do the trick. Add a flag if you have one, and ta-da, you have a patriotic porch.

I hope these last-minute decorating tips will ensure that your porch looks festive for the upcoming holiday. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick, easy decorating tips I may have overlooked. Have a wonderful summer.
