Pinterest Challenge
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge hosted by Cindy at County Road 407. Our inspiration photo is from Rachel at The Antiqued Journey. Rachel’s handcrafted basket is filled with a vintage charm of red, white, and blue. She combined a vintage marshmallow tin with American flags, flowers, and vintage dishes for a stunning patriotic vignette.

If you are joining me from Lora at Create and Ponder, welcome. I know you loved her adorable centerpiece, using scrap fabric flags. See the links to the remaining nine participants at the end of my post.

Gathering Vintage Americana Decor
The first step to creating a vintage Americana 4th of July Decor basket is gathering the supplies. Although Rachel’s basket is filled with vintage dishes, I wanted my basket to have a garden aesthetic because I’m using it in the greenhouse. So I began looking for items that had a patriotic garden feel.
I also didn’t want to spend any money to create the basket, so I gathered items from the greenhouse and garden. Although I don’t have an old Campfire Marshmallow tin, I remembered that I had a few vintage tin coffee cans, one of which was red, white, and blue with a touch of yellow. I also pulled out a few American flags and a vintage flower frog.

I gathered flowers from my garden to add another red, white, and blue aspect to the basket vignette.

I recently purchased a vintage garden statuary and have been looking for a way to share this darling little boy with you. Since I’m using a large scoop basket, I decided the statue would be the focal point, rather than the smaller coffee can. Finally, instead of using vintage dishes like Rachel did, I substituted them for vintage terra cotta pots and saucers.

How To Put Vintage 4th of July Decor Basket Together
The first step was adding water to the coffee can and the bud vases to keep the fresh blooms vibrant. Adding blue hydrangea blooms to the coffee can creates a vintage rustic vibe to the display.
To style the 4th of July decor basket, I began at the back with a riser to hold the coffee can arrangement and another one to keep the vintage flower frog with the flags raised. I just used two small clay pots and turned them upside down to raise each piece. Then I added more small clay pots to fill in around the two bud vases, filled with white gardenias and red flowers.

Tucked amongst the garden flowers are the American flags. The Stars and Stripes add just the right touch for a patriotic theme.

Adding the Vintage Concrete Statuary To The Basket Vignette
The focal point of the basket is my sweet concrete statue of a cherubic child holding a bird. The vintage statue gives a timeless, vintage feel to the arrangement. He looks so sweet surrounded by the stunning red, white, and blue blooms.

Also nestled within the basket are small, unglazed terra cotta pots, along with a green, leafy faux basil plant, suggesting a charming, rustic garden aesthetic. The overall basket arrangement evokes a sense of nostalgic Americana, perfect for a 4th of July celebration with a vintage touch.

The greenhouse setting is enhanced with more Americana touches, numerous hanging baskets, and other garden-related decor, all of which reinforce the natural and relaxed vibe.

I hope you enjoyed my version of the Pinterest Challenge. But stay tuned, because up next is another creative basket idea for the 4th of July from Cindy at DIY Beautify. Click each image below to see more patriotic inspiration.

I am so jealous of your beautiful blue hydrangea. I had just figured out how to get mine to bloom when we moved from our old house. Have never even tried them here, since we’re so cold. Your little statue is perfect in this garden-themed arrangement; so cute in that space:)
