Easy to Make Zinnia-Inspired Decorative Pillow with Scrap Fabric

With the holidays just around the corner, this project would make great gifts for your family or friends. It’s quick and inexpensive, and you can personalize the pillows for each person.

Y’all know that I’m a waste-not kind of girl and have shared several scrap fabric DIY projects with you in the past. Well, here is my latest, and I hope you like it.

Ideas for Scrap Fabrics To Use

This project only takes a small amount of fabric. If you have leftover fabric scraps, this project is for you. Here are some places to look for your fabrics.

• Fabric from previous projects
• Fabric from children’s or grandchildren’s clothing.
• Sports Uniforms
• Team spirit with school colors
• Vacation Memorabilia.
• Wedding or other special occasion fabrics

Supplies needed

• 12 x 20 Pillow Cover – I’ve used this 20×20 Pillow Cover also.
• Permanent Fabric Glue
• Brown Sharpie
• Card Stock or Plastic
• Scissors
• Fabric Scraps torn approx. 1/4 – 1/2 inch wide – small lengths

Inspiration for Decorative Fall Pillow

My inspiration for this pillow came from the zinnias in my flower garden. As summer fades into fall, they are few and far between, turning brown and fading fast. So, this pillow represents the few stragglers in the garden right now.

First, you need to protect your pillow cover by placing a piece of cardboard or plastic inside it to prevent the glue from adhering the two sides together.

Next, draw your design on the pillow cover with a Sharpie pen. I used a brown Sharpie for this project since it is a Fall pillow.

Depending on the look you want for your design, you can use green or black. You can also draw a template for a more detailed design like my Spring Scrap Fabric Pillow Cover.

For this fall pillow design, I drew lines straight up from the bottom of the pillow cover and added circles to the tops. I also added a few leaves to the stems.

The short fabric strips are fall-colored pieces torn from clothing and previous projects.

To apply the fabric to the pillow cover, add glue to the circles and twist your fabric strips as you attach them to the glue.

For the leaves, I used thick green fabric, cut angles off the strips, and attached them flat to the pillow cover. I didn’t try to twist the fabric.
