Are you currently stuffing boxes with seasonal decor? I have 3 areas in my crawl space that are designated for seasonal decor. One area for Fall, one for Christmas and the other for both Spring and Summer. However, until recently that was the extent of my organization. I didn’t have a clue what was in each box in those designated areas.
I finally got wise and today I’m sharing my 5 Best Seasonal Decor Storage Boxes Ideas. You can easily identify what is in each box and don’t have to worry about ruining most items when stored in unheated garages or attic spaces.
There’s nothing worse than realizing that you need a piece of your Christmas Decor before it’s time to pull all the boxes out.
How will you ever find that one wreath in those 20 boxes full of Christmas Decorations? LOL
I became aware of a great app to help you identify what is stored in each of your boxes and it’s a life saver.

In addition, I have a few other tips that really make items safer while in storage.

Seasonal Decor Storage Boxes Ideas
So my first tip is to designate a separate area of storage for each season.
Then, I recommend that you use durable, sealable storage boxes when storing seasonal decor.
You don’t want to risk any unwanted guest getting into your boxes and ruining your valuable decor.

Organize Your Decor
Next, be sure to store like items together. All of my seasonal tableware is stored in one box and I have a box for pumpkins and a box for floral stems, etc.
Usually, when I’m searching for a stored decor item, I’m looking for similar items, therefore having all my florals stored together is a time saver.

Protect Seasonal Decor Storage Items
If your storage area isn’t climate controlled, you should be cautious about storing items that may melt or freeze in those storage boxes.
In addition, extreme heat can cause moisture to build inside your containers and the solution is easy. Just add a few moisture absorbing silica packets to the decor storage boxes and no more moisture issues.

I personally save packets that come with items I purchase. However, if you don’t have a good supply, they are inexpensive to purchase here.
Easily Identify What’s in the boxes
I learned about ToteScan Intelligent QR Labels almost a year ago on a blog post by Julie at My Wee Abode.
I immediately ordered the labels and I’ve been using them each time I store away my seasonal decor.

It’s so easy to download the app and scan one of the QR Labels for each seasonal storage box.
In addition, these labels can be used for craft supplies, tool boxes, or any area of your home. You can order the labels here and the information for the app is included with the labels.
Have you ever completely emptied a cabinet only to find that the bowl you are looking for is stored elsewhere? I know, it’s very aggravating to spend so much time looking for items.
If I scan this QR Label, photo’s of each item in this cabinet will appear. In the description I had top shelf or bottom shelf. You can be even more specific to assure no more taking everything out to find one item.

These labels have really simplified my storage issues.

Finally, attach the label to your box or inside a cabinet door, in an area that will be easy to scan.
If you are stacking storage containers, place the label on the side facing out, for ease of scanning.

Photograph the items that you are placing inside, as you pack your storage box.
You can add several photo’s to assure that you can recognize the items and in addition, you can add full descriptions.
Below is a screen shot of what the app looks like.
The instructions are very clear, however if you’d like more information, you can check out Julies post.

If you should need to determine what’s in a storage container, you just open the ToteScan app and scan the QR label attached to your box. The photo’s will appear as you see below.

One Bonus Tip
I have been working with the ScanTote tip for almost a year. I have not scanned all my cabinets or storage areas.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, you may feel that it’s a huge task.
However, I recommend that you begin with the season your are storing right now and get started. Within a year all your seasonal decor will be scanned.

In addition, I only scan cabinets when I need to dig something out from the back. While everything is out, I begin to document by scanning and photographing the items as I place them back inside.
I hope these 5 Seasonal Decor Storage Boxes Ideas will be helpful as you store away your fall decor and get ready for Christmas.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I can’t wait to share my next adventure with you.
