Vintage Tea Party Ideas – Tea for Two and More

Would you like to be invited to a fun Tea Party? Today I’m sharing Tea Party Ideas and how to set a table for two. As you can see, Rudy is ready for the party.

When I was a little girl playing tea party was so much fun and yes, in order to fill the guest list dogs and cats were invited. Sometimes with disastrous results.

Let’s hope today’s party ends well. LOL

Tea Anyone?

What do you imagine when you hear tea party? An elegant affair, hats and white gloves, long dresses, etc.?

Well, today’s grown up tea party can be anything from casual to elegant and is a perfect theme for almost any occasion.

Supper Club

It’s time for our monthly supper club table ideas and this months theme is Tea Party.

If you are joining us for the first time, we are a group of friends who love to entertain and when entertaining in person wasn’t recommended last year, we started a virtual supper club in January 2021.

Each month we choose a theme for our dinner tables, which we post on the 4th Thursday of each month.

Next, we each share a recipe to complete the meal on the 4th Saturday.

Although the theme is the same, I love seeing each persons interpretation of the theme and how they make it fit their decor style. If you missed last months Brunch Table or this Spring Table Setting you can still see them by clicking the highlighted titles.

Each month we have one guest blogger joining us and I’m so excited that Brendt from She Gave It A Go is our guest for April.

If you are joining me from Simply 2 Moms, welcome. I know you loved their great tea party tips.

Tea Party Themes and Occasions

Although tea can be enjoyed for any occasion here are some fun ideas for planning a Tea Party theme.

  • Bridal Shower or Engagement Party
  • Mother’s Day
  • Baby Shower
  • Birthday Celebrations
  • Retirement Parties
  • Friendsgiving
  • Christmas Gathering
  • Anniversary Celebration
  • Girlfriend Time (See more ideas for planning girlfriend time here)

How do you dress for a Tea Party?

When planning a tea party, it’s best to include a dress suggestion with the invite.

The location and occasion will sometimes dictate whether the dress is casual or fancy. However there are set rules and just depends on the hosts preference.

Although anything goes for today’s casual parties, we decided to make it a little more fun with dresses and hats.

Vintage Tea Party Ideas

When our supper club theme for April was announced, I began looking for some cute tea cups and accessories for a tea party.

I found some of the cutest vintage tea cups and tea pots while out Thrifting with the Gals and decided to use them on my table. Even the table cloth and napkins are vintage thrifted finds.

I found these tiny tea cups at one of our local thrift stores with the matching tea pot. I couldn’t resist bringing them home.

A pair of tea cups and saucers are available in my store.

Then on another trip I found this tray and tureen with a missing lid. They were so inexpensive and I knew I could use them.

The tablecloth and napkins were purchased about a year ago but this is my first opportunity to use them.

If you are planning a tea party and need supplies, thrift stores are a money saving option.

You can mix and match your tea cups and accessories for a fun table setting. If you’d like to learn more about thrift store shopping, see these 10 Successful Tips.

Vintage Tableware

Y’all know I love using vintage table decor and today’s table is filled with vintage dishes, silverware and accessories.

In addition to the vintage tea cups and saucers, these floral dessert plates are perfect for the small portions at the tea party. Although they are new, the small dessert (cupcake) holder are another cute addition and they are perfect for small desserts. You can see the porcelain cupcake holders here.

I found the cutest vintage egg cups at the Christian Out Reach Center this Spring and decided that they were perfect for this occasion as well.

The vintage platters hold fruit and sweet treats in addition to small quiche and cheese wafers. You can see the cheese wafer recipe here.

The lidless tureen is filled with a delicate napkin and is perfect for holding the tea party scones.

Tea Party Centerpiece

Due to the casual location and small table, I choose a milk glass vase holding a fresh cut centerpiece of rosemary and daisy’s.

The cilantro herb filled basket adds additional fragrant aroma to the table.

Food Choices

Whether you are hosting a party for two or many, keeping the food light and easy to pick up is the key at a tea party.

Although the winds were high and my hat had to be tied around my neck, I had the best time. Rudy not so much!

Although he was the perfect gentleman, I don’t think Rudy cared for tea or sitting in a small chair.

When I gave him a cracker for being such a good boy, he spit it out.

Oh, well, I’ll be sure to only invite the girls next time. LOL
