5 Creative Fall Tablescape Ideas

Ok, I’m going to be honest. I’m just not finding a lot of new fall tableware. The shelves are bare and although I love shopping online, it’s still been a challenge to find those items that get my heart racing with new ideas.

So here are 5 Creative Fall Tablescape Ideas that you can use to make your old stuff look new again. Just use what you have in new and interesting ways. Let’s begin.

1 – Use Linens in an interesting way

First, for this rustic greenhouse tablescape, I planned to used a tablecloth from the thrift store. After spreading it across the table, it felt to heavy and wasn’t working for me. Since the tablescape is rustic, allowing the natural table top boards to show was a better choice. So my first tip is to re-imagine the tablecloth. Here I folded the cloth into a runner and gathered it in strategic places to allow for the place mats and center piece.

You can also use more than one tablecloth and run them in the opposite direction for an interesting change.

I used a wooden riser to give the center piece more height and gathered the tablecloth runner under the riser legs.

2 – Make your own chargers or Place mats

My second tip involves getting creative with you place mats or plate chargers. You can paint existing metal or plastic chargers to update them. You can find spray paint is so many fun colors. I recently painted some chipped charger’s with copper paint and it took only minutes to complete. In addition, you can make them from recycled materials such as the ones I made from packing material. You can see the DIY tutorial here.

3 – Tie Silverware with Jute String

The third idea for creating a fall tablescape is to get creative with your silverware. Tie your flat ware pieces together with a jute string, ribbon or even with the napkin. Some of the best and most creative ideas are when we bend the rules.

4- Get creative with your napkins

Traditional napkin rings are great and add so much to a table but even those can be improved upon with an added garnish of fresh herbs or flowers.

For this rustic fall tablescape idea, I used clay flower pots to hold the napkins and pulled the corners out to look like flower petals.

I then add the silverware, that was tied with jute string, to the center of the napkin.

The clay pots were a natural choice since the table is in the greenhouse.

5 – Mix up your dishes

Finally, one of my favorite ways to be creative when styling a fall tablescape is to mix my dishes. I never place a full matching set on any table. Here I have used rustic pottery plates and topped them with the more decorative pumpkin plates. The pottery dishes are 40 years old and are still one of my favorite purchases. I pull them out at least once a season and mix with some of my fine china. Don’t feel everything has to match when styling a creative tablescape.

Bonus Tip for Creative Fall Tablescape

I get a lot of questions about these chimney candle lights. If you have followed me for long, you know I love to save my tin cans and recycle them in interesting ways. These are just tuna cans that are spray painted with Copper Paint. The chimney’s are collected from thrift stores. Click here for other Free Decor Tips and Here for Thrift Store Shopping Tips.
